Dubai's 2027 forum puts residents' daily needs first
Four-day gathering in January 2027 focuses on turning plans into better lives
For the residents of a city that keeps growing, the questions that matter most are practical ones: whether the infrastructure around them keeps pace with daily life, whether resources are used wisely, and whether the services they depend on can keep running when crisis strikes. Those questions sit at the heart of the 12th Dubai International Project Management Forum, which Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority announced on Sunday will run from January 10 to 13, 2027, under the theme “From Vision to Impact”.
The four-day gathering is designed to explore how ambitious ideas become projects that improve people’s lives. To that end, it will bring together government officials, business leaders, international experts and project management specialists to discuss the future of planning and delivering major projects, with a focus on artificial intelligence, digital transformation, sustainable infrastructure and crisis preparedness as tools to help governments and businesses deliver more efficiently.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, the forum is jointly organised by the RTA, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Emaar Properties and the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said the theme reflects Dubai’s approach to turning ambitious plans into practical achievements. “The theme of the 12th edition, ‘From Vision to Impact’, captures the essence of Dubai’s experience and its approach to delivery, built on clarity of vision, sound planning, swift execution and measuring the impact of projects on people’s lives and society,” he said. Effective project management, he added, plays an important role in supporting economic growth, improving quality of life and preparing cities and organisations for future challenges.
The programme is built around four main themes and 12 specialised topics addressing challenges and opportunities facing governments and businesses. One theme examines digital transformation, innovation, organisational readiness and data-driven decision-making, with discussions on how advanced technologies can help organisations improve planning, decide faster and respond to changing circumstances. Another looks at smart cities and sustainable infrastructure, highlighting how cities can balance population growth, efficient use of resources and residents’ well-being while building infrastructure capable of meeting future needs.
Artificial intelligence and automation feature prominently in a third theme, where sessions will consider how AI-powered tools, digital solutions and better coordination between project teams can raise productivity, speed up delivery and improve outcomes. Experts will also discuss flexible project management approaches that let organisations adapt as requirements change. The fourth theme turns to resilience, preparing organisations for unexpected disruptions, risks and crises, with topics including risk assessment, crisis preparedness, leadership, decision-making and strategies for keeping essential operations running in difficult conditions.
Al Tayer said the themes were developed after a specialised workshop that brought together government and private sector representatives, strategic partners, academics and project management experts. The chosen topics reflect international priorities, particularly the growing importance of technology, sustainability and organisational resilience.
The forum has been building toward this edition since its launch in 2014. Over its first 11 editions, according to Al Tayer, it drew more than 25,000 participants and over 450 speakers, among them decision-makers, industry experts and project management specialists, growing into an international platform for exchanging expertise and comparing approaches to planning and implementation.
Organisers say the 2027 edition will go further than previous ones in pushing for results. It will place greater emphasis on translating knowledge and innovative ideas into measurable outcomes, offering government entities, businesses and specialists opportunities to build partnerships, swap experiences and pursue practical solutions to delivery challenges. Beyond discussing emerging trends, the event will examine how organisations can adopt new technologies and management practices to deliver projects that generate lasting economic and social benefits for the people they serve.
