Hollywood Star Cena Anchors Abu Dhabi Comic Con's 46,000-Plus Attendance Strategy

John Cena’s confirmed appearance at the Middle East Film & Comic Con 2026 is the clearest signal yet of the celebrity firepower organisers are assembling for the festival’s 14th edition, scheduled for September 11 to 13 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi.

The event’s commercial draw is considerable. Previous editions attracted more than 46,000 attendees, and Cena’s crossover appeal across professional wrestling and Hollywood gives organisers a marquee name capable of pulling from both fan bases. The 17-time wrestling world champion will be present on September 12 and 13, anchoring the weekend’s headline programming.

His entertainment portfolio is broad. On screen, Cena has appeared in The Suicide Squad, Fast & Furious, Barbie, Bumblebee and Superman. Beyond film, he holds the Guinness World Record for granting the most wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation by an individual, has written children’s books, and released a rap album titled You Can’t See Me, drawn from the catchphrase that defined his wrestling persona.

Cena joins a roster that organisers are still building. Mackenyu, who portrays Roronoa Zoro in Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation, is confirmed, as is Finnish actor Joonas Suotamo, known for playing Chewbacca in the Star Wars sequel trilogy and Lurch in Netflix’s Wednesday. Additional guests are expected to be announced before the event opens.

Meanwhile, the festival’s programming structure is designed to maximise visitor spending and dwell time. Celebrity panels, cosplay showcases, gaming experiences and comic book activities run across all three days. A dedicated Meet the Stars zone offers autographs, photographs and direct interactions with guests, integrating film, television, anime, manga, gaming, comics and collectibles under one roof at ADNEC.

Ticket pricing reflects tiered access. VIP passes have already sold out. Standard admission is priced at Dh160 for a Friday one-day pass, Dh190 for Saturday and Dh160 for Sunday, with a three-day weekend pass available at Dh390. Children aged six and under enter free; tickets for those aged seven to 11 cost Dh50 at the door.

The sell-out of VIP inventory ahead of the event opening raises a practical question for organisers: whether the remaining standard-tier capacity can absorb demand from a fanbase that spans wrestling audiences, streaming-era entertainment properties and the region’s established comic convention community.
