The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Media Authority convened a media briefing in Abu Dhabi on Monday to outline the country’s preparations, with officials stressing the government’s strategic focus on integrating financing mechanisms, technology deployment, and innovation pipelines within the water sector. Abdullah Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, addressed the briefing directly. He described the event as “a turning point in global climate and water action,” one that will accelerate innovation and drive the adoption of sustainable technological solutions. Balalaa underscored the need to “translate international commitments into tangible action that supports the sustainability of water resources,” language that points to a recurring gap between pledged finance and deployed capital in the water sector globally.

The UAE’s co-hosting role with Senegal also carries a geopolitical economy dimension.
